Olivier Borde, 36, was born in Avignon, Provence, France. He used to go to swap meets with his grandma when he was a boy, looking for vintage fabrics, buttons and trims. His ideal of male elegance was and still is his grandfather's -"a strong mountain man who cared little for vanity and much for decorum and is the most elegant man I have ever met". When he was 14, his parents gave him a sewing machine as a present, a second-hand Singer Starlet with a sunset decoration that can still be seen in his atelier hidden behind olive trees and vines in the small Provençal town of Monteux. In 1996, Olivier Borde graduated from Ecole Supérieure des Métiers Artistiques de Montpellier. And he finally started his own label in 2008. He reinvents the classics of male fashion in the best artistic and poetic tradition, infusing them with modern French sensibility. Artisanal savoir-faire is the buzzword for the fashion industry today but for Olivier Borde, authentic craftsmanship is second nature. Which makes a truly fresh perspective on the male wardrobe.
